Susan Kiley, mother of 3, 1 dog and 1 cat, living in the Midwest where extreme elements are a daily occurance. I started my business because my mother an RN for OB scared me with the realities of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and would always say “never, ever, ever place a blanket over Brianna's face”. My husband and I struggled with infertility issues for numerous years, so once we found out we were having a baby we wanted to do everything we could to protect her. My mother and I did what every new entrepreneur does and work at the kitchen table on weekends and late nights. We came up with the prototype in 2005, used it for the next 3 years and brought it to market late 2008, again relaunching in 2010 with a new brand design, logo and name. Everyone asks when did I realize I had something? Our first instinc was being stopped in stores by other moms asking where we bought it from, but the real turning point came in our Pediatricians office in 2006 with my second child. A new young couple came in with their 2 month old son. The dad started literally peeling off the layers to get to his son; large fleece blanket, “bunting” cover thing, blanket and a winter jacket. As he raised his sweaty, red faced son, the dad remarked, “wow buddy, you must be warm”. The red, sweaty baby still had on a sweater, a shirt and a onesie under that. I knew at that moment, there needed to be education and something better to protect our little ones, while giving back at the same time.
